Field Gibson Media.
How structuring and visualising publicly available data gave B2B Fintech application the leading edge

Case Study
Background

Field Gibson Media (FGM) is a young company backed by many years of publishing and editorial experience.

Between them, the company’s chairman/content director and managing director have more than 70 years of experience developing and managing specialist financial media, through senior editorial and management positions at some of the sector’s leading publishers.

Launched in 2011, FGM took over InsuranceERM, followed soon after by Environmental Finance. In 2014, FGM launched Insurance Asset Risk.

Based in London, the company publishes content across the digital, printed and spoken word; delivered to the highest standard.

FGM is keen to expand its business both organically and through acquisition.

ML for B2B Data Product Development

The Challenge

When insurance solvency II data was made public due to EU directives, the B2B publisher knew there was an opportunity to leverage the data.

FGM recognised its potential power to add value through IP and additional revenues. However, the team needed to act quickly if they were to get it to the market before the competition.

The company had insight into what its clients would like but were unsure of how to extract value from this data.

Additionally, they were unsure of how to implement the production of an analytical product.

Seizing the opportunity, FGM approached The Data Analysis Bureau for a solution to be delivered in a tight time frame.

The Solution

T-DAB provided FGM with an end-to-end service: from guiding the team through to the tools available and building the first proof of concept to on-going maintenance for the market service.

The development process enabled the client to understand what methods and technologies were available to achieve the desired product in the tight time frame and competitive space they existed in.

Initial discussions between the two teams helped FGM quickly scope and assess their data product requirements, as well as build a clear roadmap to delivering a market-ready service.

Working alongside the FGM team, T-DAB structured the company’s on-premise MySQL database – enabling front-end integration, and following a review of tools and a dashboard design session, allowed T-DAB to customise a series of interactive dashboards, using Tableau software.

Tailored to the needs of FGM’s requirements, as well as those of their clients., it is quick, flexible and easy for users to access the insights they need to make data-driven decisions.

The Result

Through T-DAB, FGM met its goals: delivering a new data product to market which is allows those in the financial industry to benchmark and assess organisations.

Since its launch, the product has delivered a significant (5x) return on investment (ROI), while differentiating FGM from its competitors.

It has attracted a new revenue stream for FGM, as well as new customers, thanks to its cutting-edge, highly interactive dashboards.

Through the dashboards, users can undertake in-depth competitive and market analysis for more than 2,400 financial institutions.
